Earl J. Polzen, 90, of Mayville, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2020 at St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac.
Earl was born on July 8, 1929, the son of Harold and Elda (Ferge) Polzen in Mayville.
Earl was a graduate of Mayville High School and then went on to Coyne Electrical School. Earl served his country in the Air Force National Guard from 1948-1951, first activated to radio school in St. Louis and then serving the last four months in Madison at Truax Field overseeing the vehicles for the air police.
He was united in marriage to Joanne Antonioni on August 17, 1957, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mayville.
Earl started a TV repair and sales business then real estate selling, building, and appraising business. He also had a laundry and dry cleaning business until 1991.
Earl was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Mayville. He was also a member of the Mayville American Legion Post #69. Earl was an avid sportsman and was a member of various clubs such as Wings Over Wisconsin and The Greenhead Hunting Club, which he was a member since he was a young man. He was also active in the Mayville Historical Society and the Mayville Limestone School Museum, and the Friends of the Horicon Marsh.
Earl enjoyed hunting and fishing over the years with friends from Wisconsin to Iowa, North Dakota, and Canada.
In recent years sporting clays with his friends as far away as Sheboygan, Oconomowoc, Fond du Lac, Beaver Dam, and Oakfield. Earl also traveled with his wife to England and Holland to watch his niece play on the US Soccer team. They also enjoyed traveling on Mexican and Alaskan Cruises and enjoyed winters in Texas for 13 years.
Earl is survived by his wife of 62 years, Joanne of Mayville; his brother, Gerald Polzen of Beaver Dam; his sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Wondra and Catherine Osborne. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sisters, Marion Boeck and Margaret Bosch; sisters-in-law, Lucy Kohli and Julia Rhodes.
A private family memorial service will be held.
