Merry Ann Meyer

Merry Ann Meyer, 82, of Cedar Park, TX, and formerly of Horicon, died on Friday, February 10, 2023.
Merry Ann Meyer was born December 24, 1940, in Grafton Township, Sibley County, MN, to Virgil and Medora (Brooks/Pfeil) Jakobitz.
After graduating from Buffalo Lake High School, Merry Ann attended Augsburg College, before transferring to Mankato State College in Minnesota. While attending Mankato State, she met and fell in love with Roger Meyer from Rockwell City, IA. After college, they were married at The Evangelical United Brethren Church of Buffalo Lake, MN, in 1963.
Merry Ann and Roger moved to Horicon, after Roger was hired at Horicon High School as head football coach. Merry Ann began working at the Horicon Elementary school shortly thereafter. She loved being a teacher. Throughout a rewarding 43-year career teaching in Horicon, she taught hundreds of children of various different age groups: fifth/sixth grade combination classes, physical education, second/third grade combination classes, third grade and first grade. She was also a high school cheerleading coach for football, basketball and wrestling.
In 2018, Merry Ann and Roger moved to Cedar Park, TX, to be closer to their children. While they missed all of their friends and colleagues in Horicon, they made many new friends in Texas, where they were active at their Lakeline Oaks retirement community. She enjoyed teaching chair exercises, playing bingo and singing in the community choir. Merry Ann loved to vacation on cruise ships, travel around the country, watch football, go gambling and shopping with her family. In 2015, she was diagnosed with kidney disease which escalated again in late 2022, when she got pneumonia.
Merry Ann will be greatly missed by her loving husband of 59 years, Roger; daughter, Kari (Stan) Rosen of Round Rock, TX; son, Chris (Jeanine) Meyer of Lakeway, TX; grandchildren, Kaitlin and Collin; brother, Larry (Betty) Jakobitz of Minnetonka, MN; sister-in-law, Gloria Jakobitz of Buffalo Lake, MN; and various nieces, including Kelli (Loren) Larson of Georgetown, TX, nephews, relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Robert Jakobitz and Alan in infancy; sisters, Elvera Broderius and JoAnn Mueller; and brothers-in-law, Buford Broderius and Roger Mueller.
As per Merry Ann’s request, no funeral will be held; a memorial service with close family members will be held in its place.
