Robert E. Leidholdt
Robert E. Leidholdt, 81, went home to his Lord on Saturday, May 13, 2023, at Villa Loretta Home in Mount Calvary. He was born in Fond du Lac on July 18, 1941, the son of Ervin and June (nee Gibson) Leidholdt. He was a 1959 graduate of Campbellsport High School. Robert was united in marriage to Nancy M. Klein on October 6, 1962, at Our Lady of Good Hope Catholic Church in Milwaukee. Robert was a proud and talented mason for many years working for Selzer & Ornst Construction and later for Kotze Construction. He worked on many projects in the Milwaukee area, including the Allen-Bradley Clock Tower.
Family always came first for Robert. He enjoyed many camping trips all over Wisconsin and other states with his wife and children, loved the show “MASH,” All Star Wrestling, and spending time on Long Lake, fishing, boating, and swimming with the grandchildren. He also enjoyed taking the grandkids and great-grandkids for pontoon boat rides around the lake and just hanging out on the pier with family. He loved many family gatherings where he could show off his grilling skills. His favorite, above all, was Christmas. Robert and Nancy always had a 13foot Christmas tree in their previous stone house and current log cabin home. It was beautifully decorated not only with lights and ornaments, but with family by it. He knew directions in Milwaukee like the back of his hand and we all relied on his directional expertise to get us where we wanted to go. Robert and Nancy enjoyed traveling, including Brazil, France, Switzerland, Jamaica, Bahamas, Hawaii, and all over the United States.
Robert, skilled in the art of masonry, put a personal touch on each of his homes including a large fieldstone fireplace in his previous stone house outside of Campbellsport. After retirement he enjoyed making miniature fieldstone light houses that adorn his front yard by his current home on Long Lake. Robert was also a woodworker and could fix just about anything. Robert and Nancy also hosted a foreign exchange student from Brazil, Soraya Galassi Sarro, who quickly became his fourth daughter and ice-cream companion and have stayed in touch over the years. Soraya referred to Robert as the “Spoiled Child” because he was an only child.
Those left behind to cherish his memory include his wife of 60 years, Nancy; daughters, Victoria (Wayne) Bokelman, Kelly (Michael) Gatzke, and Jill (Todd) Leidholdt-Immel; grandchildren, Gabriella and Matthew Bokelman, Rebecca (Benjamin) Blandin, Stephanie (Adam) Konz, Cassandra (special friend, Bradley) Gatzke, Elizabeth (Scott) Abig, Nathan (fiancé Samantha) Rauch, Ryan (Alexis) Rauch, Marissa Immel, and Travis Immel; great-grandchildren, Hudson, Everett, Gracelynn, Adley, Axton, Brantley, Kailey, Jaxson, Ethan, Madison, and Maddilyn; brother-in-law, Robert (Barbara) Klein; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Mortl; other relatives and friends.
Preceding Robert in death were his parents, Ervin and June; in-laws, John and Anna Klein; brother-in-law, Greg Mortl; and a number of aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday May 20, at 12 p.m. at Shepherd of the Hills Catholic Church, W1562 County Road B, Eden, with visitation from 10:30 a.m. until time of Mass at the church. Lunch to follow. Rev. Mark Jones will officiate, and Robert’s remains will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Dundee at a later date.
