Bernard J. “Buddy” Brown passed away at his home Saturday, July 1, 2023, with his loving wife, Barbara, and oldest son, Pat, by his side.
On March 27, 1931, Buddy was born to Clement and Frances (Flitter) Brown during a snow storm. The doctor and midwife traveled to their Dundee home by horse drawn sleigh and had to stay the entire night. He was the oldest sibling to Leo, Joan, David, and Monica.
Buddy attended a one room school in Dundee, graduating from Campbellsport High School in 1950. Following graduation, he joined the Army Air Corp planning to be a paratrooper. After being injured in a jump, Buddy served his remaining time in Stuttgart, Germany.
In October of 1956, he married Marilyn Weiland at St. Kilian Catholic Church. Together they had five children. In June of 1996, he married Barbara Kode (Ravenscraft) at Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church in Armstrong and gained four additional children
Buddy had numerous careers during his lifetime, including working for Asplundh Tree Trimming, Gehl Company, and Regal Ware. He later owned Club 49 and ended his career working at Tom’s Millwork and as a Correctional Officer at Kettle Moraine Correctional Institution.
He loved the outdoors, especially hunting. He once spent six weeks in Alaska backpacking on horseback with several Native Americans. He made several trips to Alaska to hunt Kodiak bear. He raised several bears himself and had two deer farms. He especially loved being up north at his home near Hurley.
Buddy was a proud member of the American Legion, VFW Post 8339 (past president), and the Knights of Columbus.
Buddy survived by his wife, Barbara; his brother David Brown; his children, Pat (Lynn) Brown, Lisa (Eugene) Hau, Dan (Kelli Ebert) Brown, Molly (Tim) Schill, and Bernadette (Bruce) Biller; his special granddaughter Amanda Brown; his step-children, Kimberly (Scott) Sutton, Rob (Renee) Kode, Brenda Kode, and Stacy Kode; grandchildren, Adon Brown, Beau, Brian, Brendan, and Bruce Jr. Biller, Emily and Evan Sutton, Hailey, Jackson, Landon and Avery Kode, Kyla, Heather, and Jessie Kode, and Zachary, Tanner, Hunter, Tony, and Elleigh Kode; and great-grandchildren.
Buddy is further survived by many family members and friends, including Mary Bowe; Larry Brown; Chris Liebich; Val O’Laughlin and her daughters, Kaili, Rachel, and Leah; Vicki Stoffel and her daughter, Audra; Julie Brown; Lori Wilhelms; Wayne and Marion Elsinger, and Jake and Theresia Webel. He is also survived by his former spouse, Marilyn Brown.
Bernard was preceded in death by his parents, Clem and Frances, as well as three siblings and their spouses: Leo and Carol Brown, Joan and Dick Becker, Monica and Mike Lavey; and sister-in-law, Katherine Brown.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 6, 2023, from 12 p.m. until 3 p.m. at Shepherd of the Hills Catholic Church, W1562 County Road B, Eden, WI. 53019. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 3 p.m. at the Church with Rev. Mark Jones officiating. Burial at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Dundee will follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to Shepherd of the Hills Catholic Church, Trinity Lutheran Church, or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
