Robert Curtis Schmidt

   Robert Cur­tis Schmidt, 75, of Mil­wau­kee, passed away on Sat­ur­day, June 8, 2024, at Froedtert Hos­pi­tal in Mil­wau­kee from se­vere in­juries suf­fered when a speed­ing car crashed into him while he was stopped at a red light.
Bob, as he was known to fam­ily and friends, was born on March 9, 1949, to Paul and Elveira (nee Zir­bel) Schmidt.
He was united in mar­riage with Faye Lehman on No­vem­ber 2, 1968, in Hus­tis­ford.
Bob served our coun­try in the United States Army from 1968-1971.
A no­to­ri­ous joke­ster and rov­ing co­me­dian, Bob was well loved for his unique sense of humor and being the life of the party. A lover of music, par­tic­u­larly blues and clas­sic rock, he en­joyed play­ing his acoustic gui­tar and at­tend­ing con­certs by his fa­vorite artists. A strong ath­lete in high school, he con­tin­ued to enjoy play­ing bas­ket­ball (at least until his knees gave out), vol­ley­ball, golf, and bowl­ing. He was a major fan of the Green Bay Pack­ers, tech­ni­cally a co-owner, and at­tended the fa­mous Ice Bowl – a fact he would bring up seem­ingly every few min­utes. He also en­joyed gar­den­ing, pho­tog­ra­phy, ales and lagers, Sum­mer­fest, tail­gat­ing at Brew­ers games, and play­ing cards, es­pe­cially Sheepshead which earned him the moniker “The King of Queens.” An early adopter of tech­nol­ogy and video cam­eras, he was also known as “Video Bob” for his well-re­ceived home movies and videos, which were quite elab­o­rate for their time. He was a dog lover, sup­port­ive hus­band, ter­rific fa­ther, and the kind of grand­fa­ther (known as Pappy) who could never quite de­cide if he wanted to spoil his grand­chil­dren or just make them laugh. So he did both.
Bob is sur­vived by his ador­ing wife of 55 years, Faye Schmidt; lov­ing sons, Jason (Ellen) of New York City, and Justin (Holly Wells) of Uhrichsville, Ohio; brother, Wayne of Hart­ford; brother-in-law, Nor­bert Lehmann (Jill) of Eau Claire; and cher­ished grand­chil­dren, Amelia and Vi­vian. He is fur­ther sur­vived by cousins, nieces, nephews, and other rel­a­tives and friends.
Bob was pre­ceded in death by his par­ents; par­ents-in-law, Nor­bert and Priscilla (nee Radloff) Lehmann; brother-in-law, Keith Lehmann, and sis­ter-in-law, Joyce Bartelt and her hus­band, Tom.
A Memo­r­ial Ser­vice hon­or­ing Bob’s life will be held Fri­day, June 14, at 2:30 p.m. at the Shi­mon Fu­neral Home, 824 Union Street, Hart­ford, WI 53027. Fam­ily will greet rel­a­tives and friends at the fu­neral home on Fri­day from 1 p.m. to 2:15 p.m. Please feel wel­come to wear Bob’s fa­vorite color, pur­ple.
Pri­vate com­mit­tal ser­vices will be held with mil­i­tary hon­ors at Hus­tis­ford Ceme­tery, Hus­tis­ford.
