Wilbert Puls
Wilbert Henry Puls of Mayville went to be with his Lord on June 13, 2024, at the age of 94.
Wilbert was born September 10, 1929, the son of Oscar and Lucy (Schellpfeffer) Puls in Mayville. He grew up on the family farm on Decora Road. Wilbert was confirmed April 2, 1944, by Rev. C. W. Stratman.
On September 5, 1948, he married Ardis Dirks at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Mayville. St. John’s was their church family for life.
Wilbert was a hardworking man and supported his family as a self-employed milk hauler for 31 years. He also worked full-time at Mayville Metal Products for 35 years, retiring in 1993.
Wilbert and Ardis enjoyed their trailer at Rolling Stone Lake for 27 years. Wonderful memories were made there with family and many friends. After retiring he was busy in “Grandpa’s Garage” building trailers, deer stands, storage sheds and many crafts. Hunting, trapping, fishing were some of his favorite pastimes. He enjoyed these activities with his sons and grandsons. He also enjoyed his raspberry patch for many years – sharing the bounty with family and friends. Wilbert and Ardis were also able to travel a bit and enjoyed trips to Montana to visit their daughter and her family.
He is survived by his wife, Ardis of 75 years; their seven children, Virginia (Dan) Bell, Ronald Puls, James (Christine) Puls, all of Mayville, Sandra (Christopher) Budeski of Bozeman, MT, Richard (Pamela) Puls of Oshkosh, Tammy Knaus of Sun Prairie and Dave (Aimee) Puls of Mayville. He also leaves behind 15 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren plus one due very soon, and one great-great-granddaughter, also step-grandchildren and their families; one sister, Janice Fischer of Mayville; sister-in-law, Norma Puls of Mayville; and brother-in-law, Allen Dirks of Mayville; along with nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Wilbert was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Lucy; in-laws, William and Marie Dirks; brothers, Kenneth and Harvey; sister, Gladys Mildbrandt; brother-in-law, Warren Mildbrandt; sister-in-law, Nancy Dirks; and nephews, Dennis Mildbrandt, Dale Mildbrandt and Duane Dirks.
A funeral service for Wilbert was held Tuesday June 18, at 1:30 p.m. at St John’s Lutheran Church in Mayville with the Rev. Dr. Mark Cutler and Rev. Joshua Frazee officiating. Visitation was at the church from 11 a.m. until the time of service at 1:30 p.m. Interment followed at St. John’s Cemetery in Mayville.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff at SSM Health at Home Hospice of Fond du lac for the kind and attentive care given to Wilbert, especially by Amanda and Heather. Your kindness will not be forgotten.
