Sickness was well known among the pioneers of Wisconsin. Malaria, diphtheria, smallpox, and a wide variety of throat and respiratory ailments plagued settlers. Perhaps the most dreaded was cholera. Cholera caused harsh watery diarrhea, high fever along with rapid dehydration leading to organ failure.
It seemed to come out of nowhere sweeping through
